ULTIMED ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL DUAL USE SHARPS CONTAINER PATENT
ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA – February 9, 2004 – The United States Patent Office has issued Patent No: 6,685,017 to UltiMed, Inc. This most recent patent complements the broad based claims of Patent No: 5,494,158 which cover the concept and design of various types of dual-use sharps container boxes.
It is the intention of UltiMed to expand coverage of its dual-use sharps container claims to a number of other countries, in addition to the United States.
UltiMed has focused attention on the sharps disposal issue resulting from in home use syringes in the U.S. Each year in the U.S. over 2 billion syringes are disposed of incorrectly. The estimated cost of needle stick injuries is approximately $1.6 billion per year.
UltiMed is on the forefront of this issue and continues effort to increase awareness of the issue and the UltiGuard™ product line which was conceived in the late 1990’s. The UltiGuard™ product line contains U.S. manufactured insulin syringe uniquely packaged in a dispense and dispose unit and is less expensive than the leading brand syringes which come in a standard cardboard box.
