SOUTH DAKOTA CONGRESSWOMAN HERSETH SANDLIN VISITS FACTORY

DE SMET, SOUTH DAKOTA – February 20, 2008 – South Dakota Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth Sandlin and members of her staff visited UltiMed’s syringe manufacturing facility in De Smet. Her curiosity was aroused when she learned that UltiMed is supplying more than 9,000,000 insulin syringes each month to the Veterans Administration and other U.S. Government agencies. The U.S. Government’s satisfaction with the syringes made in De Smet, South Dakota is very high, especially when compared with other brands.

Mark Gerhardt, Congresswoman Herseth Sandlin’s economic development director, indicated she is “curious by nature." This curiousity prompted her to donne a hairnet and smock, just like a company employee, to tour the “clean room” areas into which access is limited to assure the quality of the finished product.

Bob Christianson, the manager of the De Smet facility, touted the efforts of UltiMed’s South Dakota workers that make syringes which are consistently of the highest quality. He said, “Their efforts and the pride they take in their work has resulted in an insulin syringe of the highest quality - and made in the United States.”

In an interview following the tour, Gerhardt reported that Congresswoman Herseth Sandlin was “incredibly impressed” by the manufacturing plant. “To see that happening in our own backyard and in the volume they produce was really very fascinating. It is a real success story of local economic development. Obviously, she likes to see that. It’s pretty amazing stuff.”
